Arlene Demske; Active in Community Groups

Ventura resident and local volunteer Arlene Demske died Wednesday after a brief illness. She was 58.
Demske was born Jan. 23, 1940, in New York City. She moved to Ventura from Long Island in 1976.
She was a member of the Historical Preservation Commission and the Assistance League of Ventura County and enjoyed working at the Assistance League’s Bargain Box second-hand shop in Ventura.
Demske was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Demske, and the couple’s son, Chris.
Demske was an avid traveler and enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing. She also supported various humanitarian efforts.
She is survived by three sons, Michael of Petaluma; Joseph of Huntington, N.Y.; and Thomas of West Hartford, Conn.; two daughters, Gretchen LaBonte of Oakland and Mary Demske of Los Angeles; a sister, Linda Seeley of Boise, Idaho; and a brother, Joseph Howard of Minneapolis.
There will be a memorial service at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chris Demske Scholarship Fund of Buena High School in Ventura.
