Woman Held in Crash on School Grounds

A motorist careened through a fence bordering an elementary school parking lot and an empty playground Thursday morning, and then tried to flee the scene, Police Lt. Richard Long said. No one was injured in the incident.
Vicki Rae Wrightmyer, 43, of Costa Mesa was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after the 8:55 a.m. incident at Mariners Elementary School.
Students were in class when a Nissan barreled across Irvine Avenue and into the parking lot. The car, which missed the parked cars, reportedly continued through a 30-foot fence and back onto Irvine Avenue. A witness attempted to get the car to stop on Irvine Avenue; police said they stopped the car on Dover Drive, where Wrightmyer was arrested.
