* San Francisco-based BankAmerica Corp. has hired Lazard Freres & Co. to explore options for its BancAmerica Robertson Stephens investment banking unit, including a possible sale of all or part of the firm, sources told Bloomberg News. The move to consider a sale came a week after BankAmerica unveiled its $62-billion merger with NationsBank Corp. Both banks own investment banks based in San Francisco. NationsBanc Montgomery Securities is the larger and more profitable of the two.
* Beverly Hills Country Club Inc. said it has agreed to acquire golf course management and developer HWM Golf Inc. of Atlanta for undisclosed terms. BHCC, the owner and operator of the Beverly Hills Country Club, said it plans to acquire up to 10 properties in the next two years.
