Gary Stevens, who has won the Kentucky Derby three times, will ride Indian Charlie in the race at Churchill Downs on May 2.
Indian Charlie is undefeated in four starts, won the Santa Anita Derby and may go off the favorite in the Derby. Stevens also could have ridden Halory Hunter, the horse he rode to victory in Saturday’s Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland. The mount on Halory Hunter has gone to Corey Nakatani.
Stevens has won the Derby with Winning Colors in 1988, Thunder Gulch in 1995 and Silver Charm last year. He has ridden in the Derby 12 times.
