Fire Puts Three People Out of Condominiums

COSTA MESA — A two-alarm fire that began in a condominium garage displaced three people Saturday, according to fire officials and the American Red Cross.
The noon fire at 768 W. 20th St. spread quickly from the ground-floor basement of the middle condominium unit through two second-floor bedrooms, then leaped to the wood shingle roof.
Firefighters from Costa Mesa and Newport Beach had to strip the burning shingles from the roof to put out the blaze, the cause of which is under investigation. Red Cross officials assisted one of the three displaced people; another one was out of town and the third made his own arrangements.
