Oakland Doesn’t Want Raiders to Go

Two years after luring the Raiders back to Oakland, east San Francisco Bay area officials slapped the team Monday with a lawsuit that seeks to keep it from leaving Oakland.

The suit, filed at Alameda County Superior Court, accuses the team of failing to live up to the terms of its agreement and threatening to break its lease with the Oakland Coliseum.

The suit also seeks to stop the Raiders from interfering with a proposed plan to sell the stadium name to UMAX Data Systems, attorney Jeffrey Kessler said at a news conference Monday.

The Raiders, who moved to Oakland in 1995 after 13 years in Los Angeles, still have 14 years left on the Coliseum lease. But the team has claimed it has the right to break the lease because the city and county failed to sell out all home games.

Joey Galloway probably will miss a game for the first time in his NFL career when the Seattle Seahawks face Tennessee on Sunday.

And Chris Warren, another Seahawk starter, is expected to be out, too.

Galloway, a wide receiver who has played 37 consecutive games, sprained his right ankle after catching a 41-yard touchdown pass from Warren Moon in the first quarter of a 20-17 overtime loss in Kansas City. He did not return.

Warren pulled his left hamstring on a 28-yard run in the second half of Sunday’s game and did not return.

If Galloway misses the Oilers’ game, Brian Blades will replace him. If Warren is out, Lamar Smith will start.

The Denver Broncos might be without place-kicker Jason Elam in the battle of unbeaten teams Monday night between Denver and New England.

Elam, selected to the Pro Bowl in 1995, re-injured his right hip flexor and strained his groin Sunday on an extra point and the ensuing kickoff after Denver’s first touchdown in a 29-21 victory over Atlanta.

Safety Tremain Mack, a fourth-round draft choice who has started all four games for the Cincinnati Bengals, will be out for at least two weeks because of a sprained and bruised left foot sustained in the third quarter of Sunday’s 31-14 loss to the New York Jets.
