An animation program for Watts’ Grape Street Elementary School was unveiled Monday as the multimedia giant DreamWorks SKG and LA’s BEST (Better Educated Students for Tomorrow) teamed up to show students how they can make their own low-tech cartoons.

DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg was at the school when dozens of LA’s BEST students watched in fascination as specialists gave a behind-the-scenes look at the world of animation.

“It was wonderful,†said the school’s principal, Jeri Dunnigan.

“The best thing was that the people from DreamWorks showed the students they can do these things themselves. That they have the aptitude to do really exciting things.â€
