Orange Coast Wins Cross-Country Meet

Orange Coast had five runners place among the top six to win the Orange Empire Conference women’s cross-country preview Saturday at Laguna Niguel Regional Park.
The Pirates’ Donna Harris won the race in 19 minutes 6 seconds. Teammate Christine Riel finished second (19:24) and Araceli Martinez (19:56), Chiharu Kumagai (19:57) and Mara Caples (20:11) were fourth, fifth and sixth.
Lisa DeFazio finished third (19:47) for Saddleback, which was second in the team standings.
In the Orange Empire Conference men’s cross-country preview:
Santa Ana wins--Juan Soto and Mike Auellan finished second and third to help Santa Ana clinch the title. Soto ran a time of 21:12 and Auellan finished in 21:14.
Saddleback’s Dan Gaston won with a time of 20:59, leading his team to a third-place finish. Orange Coast was fourth.
In the Merced men’s water polo tournament:
Golden West 12, West Valley 8--Robert Grayeli scored four goals and Andre Pedronis had three to lead the top-ranked Rustlers (13-0) to the tournament title.
Rustler goalie Ryan Brown recorded 12 saves.
In the Mt. San Antonio women’s water polo tournament:
Golden West 10, Grossmont 5--Lisa Saenz scored seven goals, including a two-pointer, to lead the Rustlers to the title.
