Santa Monica 31, Ventura 18--Rolando Garcia passed for 385 yards but the Pirates (0-2) were unable to capitalize on several scoring opportunities in the second half in a Western State Conference interdivision game at Ventura.
Venture drove inside Santa Monica territory eight times in the second half but the Pirates scored only on a 13-yard pass from Garcia to Steven Crespo.
Brian Parker scored the Pirates’ other touchdown on a one-yard run in the second quarter.
Jeff Collins’ 22-yard field goal with 33 seconds left in the half cut the deficit to 17-10.
