El Dorado fullback Brandon Fischer rushed for 124 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Golden Hawks to a 16-6 victory over Canyon Friday night at Valencia High.

Fischer, who rushed for only 72 yards last season, scored on runs of 17 yards in the second quarter and 22 yards in the third quarter. El Dorado had 233 yards rushing, with Steven Warfield adding 93 yards in 17 carries.

“Our backs hit the holes pretty hard for the first game,†El Dorado Coach Rick Jones said. “We were not solid across the [offensive] line, but we will improve from week to week.â€

After Bryce Nebeker connected on a 27-yard field goal with 47 seconds left in the first quarter, El Dorado needed a five-yard run by Warfield on fourth and two to maintain a 60-yard drive. The march was capped on the next play with Fischer’s first touchdown run.

After Canyon failed to get a first down on a fourth-down attempt inside Golden Hawk territory, El Dorado drove 72 yards in seven plays with Fischer scoring from 22 yards out.

The Comanches got on the scoreboard with a minute gone in the fourth quarter. Aided by personal foul penalties against El Dorado, Canyon quarterback Josh Chelini connected with Geoff Lais on a 16-yard touchdown pass.
