Heart Attack Kills County Firefighter
WEST HILLS — A 28-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Fire Department died Monday, three days after suffering a heart attack while battling an Agoura house fire, authorities said.
Capt. Kenneth Bayer, 52, died at 11 a.m. at Columbia West Hills Medical Center, said Gary Wise, fire dispatch supervisor.
Bayer felt chest pains while fighting a house fire in the 5400 block of Las Virgenes Road in Agoura about noon Friday. As paramedics loaded him into an ambulance, the fire captain lost consciousness, Wise said. Bayer suffered cardiac arrest and never regained consciousness.
Bayer most recently worked at Fire Station 65 in Agoura but had also fought fires in West Hollywood, Willowbrook, Altadena and Canyon Country. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Bonnie, and two sons, ages 22 and 20.
Memorial services are pending.
