Times Food Writers Cited

Several Los Angeles Times writers were recognized by the Assn. of Food Journalists at its recent annual meeting and awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
The awards were given for work published in 1996 in newspapers and magazines with circulations of more than 200,000.
Food Editor Laurie Ochoa received third place in the Food feature writing category for her series on Chez Panisse founder Alice Waters. Michelle Huneven placed second in the same category for her story on gelatin, “Oh, Gel!”
In the columns category, former Times contributor Jonathan Gold took first place for his Counter Intelligence columns and Restaurant Critic S. Irene Virbila placed second for her restaurant reviews.
