WHO Cites Avoidable Deaths of Children

More than 11 million youngsters die in developing countries each year because doctors miss one common killer when treating another, the U.N. said in opening a new health drive for children. Millions of lives could be saved if doctors would only look for all five of the big killer diseases when they treat a child, the World Health Organization said. Pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria, measles and malnutrition cause more than 70% of childhood deaths.
