Golden West Wins Water Polo Tournament
Lisa Saenz had four goals and Nadine Akers scored three to lead Golden West to the championship of the Saddleback women’s water polo tournament Saturday at Saddleback College.
Kory O’Rourke and April Kidd each had two goals to lead the Rustlers (4-0) to the school’s first tournament championship in women’s water polo.
In the semifinal, Akers scored five goals and Saenz had four goals as the Rustlers beat Saddleback, 12-1.
In the Ventura College men’s water polo tournament:
Golden West 13, Citrus 9--Michael Peetz and Lance Bnuk each scored three goals to lead Golden West to the tournament title.
In the semifinals, Peetz scored five goals and Andre Pedronis had two two-pointers to lead the Rustlers (4-0) to a 18-8 win over Chaffey.
In the Allan Hancock men’s soccer tournament:
Irvine Valley 1, Citrus 0--John Paul Ugay, Otto Rodriguez and Brad Olson each scored as Irvine Valley defeated Oxnard, 3-2, in a pool-play game to record the 100th victory in the soccer program’s history, which dates to 1990.
In other pool-play games, Wilbur Alvarez scored the only goal as the Lasers defeated Citrus, 1-0. In the first game, the Lasers lost to Long Beach, 2-1.
