Bessler Is Lone Wolf on Appeal

VAN NUYS — Dave Bessler has made an appeal to the California Interscholastic Federation office, but he probably should have discussed it with his Van Nuys High superiors first.
Without the backing of school administrators, Bessler, Van Nuys High’s girls volleyball coach, contacted state executive director Jack Hayes about an appeal of sanctions against the team.
The Wolves are banned from the City Section playoffs this season because they used an ineligible player during the playoffs last year.
Appeals to the City Section and a special appeals committee have already been denied.
“As a school, we went through our channels and exhausted our appeals,” said Jack Molina, assistant principal in charge of athletics. “We felt there was no reason to continue on to the state. We felt there was no new information to warrant the school doing that. I believe Dave Bessler was doing it on his own.”
Hayes said the state office would uphold an appeal only if the actions of the City committee are found to be improper.
