School Mascots
Re the latest example of political correctness run amok, “L.A. School Board Bans Mascots With Indian References,†Sept. 9:
I always thought schools chose mascots that contributed to a proud, dignified identity. As such, I would happily lend my name to one of the schools in search of a new mascot. They can call themselves “the Bobs.â€

* University High School was originally named Warren G. Harding, and we know what happened there. As a graduate Warrior, class of Winter ‘44, I say: Nuts. Maybe they’d like us to call ourselves the Custers.

* If schools cannot be permitted American Indian references in their mascot names, how soon should we expect recalls of Grand Cherokees, Pontiacs and other autos whose names have just become disrespectful?
