Complaints May Lead to Recycler’s Closure

A recycling facility about half a mile from City Hall may be shut down if the City Council revokes its operating permit following a public hearing Dec. 2.

The council, acting as the Planning Commission, voted unanimously last week to recommend the hearing.

The commission cited complaints over increased noise and litter against Mobile Recycling, 5420 La Palma Ave. It is near La Palma and Walker streets by a Ralphs grocery store.

The 400-square-foot facility does not have a business license, according to a city report.

Mobile office manager Wendy West said she wants to move the facility in front of the market and would landscape the area to alleviate concerns over beautification. She acknowledges the noise, but said it would be less of a problem in the front of the store rather than behind it, where it is closer to homes.

She said the lack of a business license was an oversight.
