Carjacker May Also Be Kidnapper, Police Say
A carjacker took a woman’s Nissan on Monday afternoon, and police believe he may also have been abducting a woman and baby who were with him.
About 3:40 p.m., a 30-year-old Costa Mesa property manager was collecting checks on Mace Avenue north of Wintergreen Place when a man pulled up behind her and demanded her dark brown 1997 Nissan Maxima, police said. He appeared to have a shotgun or rifle wrapped in cloth, police said.
The woman ran off but saw the man order a woman with an approximately 8-month-old baby from his car into the Nissan, police said.
Police said the man is Latino, about 21, 5 feet 4 inches tall, 120 pounds, with short black hair, a yellow shirt and brown pants. The woman with him was Latina, about 18, with long, dyed-blond hair in a ponytail, 5 feet 5 inches tall, 120 pounds, wearing a white shirt and bluejeans, police said.
