Plane Trouble Delays Touch Gold, Free House
OCEANPORT, N.J. — The plane that was supposed to deliver Touch Gold, Free House and Anet, three of the five probable starters in Sunday’s $1-million Haskell Handicap at Monmouth Park, was delayed by mechanical trouble in Lexington, Ky., Wednesday, forcing the horses to spend the night at Keeneland.
The horses are expected to arrive this morning. They began Wednesday at Hollywood Park, and the plane was scheduled to drop them off at the Newark, N.J., airport, 40 miles from Monmouth, by midafternoon. But after dropping off several other horses in Lexington, the plane was unable to take off.
Touch Gold, winner of the Belmont Stakes, and Free House, the Santa Anita Derby and Swaps Stakes winner, are highly favored.
The other probables for the Haskell, Frisk Me Now and Tale Of The Cat, already are stabled at Monmouth.
