All-Star second baseman Roberto Alomar was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday because of a pulled right groin muscle.

He was injured while running out a bunt in Baltimore’s 5-4 victory over Texas on Tuesday night.

“He’s real bad and there’s no way [he can play],†Oriole Manager Davey Johnson said.

Alomar was replaced on the roster by Harold Baines, obtained Tuesday in a trade with the Chicago White Sox.

“This is the worst,†Alomar said. “At least I’m walking, but it’s sore.â€

Jeff Reboulet will get most of the time at second base in Alomar’s absence, with utility man Aaron Ledesma also expected to get some extra playing time.
