A health clinic that will serve Hollywood High School’s 3,000 students opened Wednesday with a celebration hosted by the school’s faculty and staff.

The free clinic will be staffed 2 1/2 days a week by a doctor, nurse, mental health clinician and health educator affiliated with Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.

Many students who have no access to health care will be able to get services such as physical examinations and health information, school officials said.

“This is so exciting,†said Carol Berk, a health coordinator at the school. “Health care access has been an important community issue and the school has been concerned about it.â€

Hollywood High is one of five high schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District with an on-site clinic. Another is scheduled to open at Manual Arts High School by September.
