WOODLAND HILLS — A 79-year-old man was struck and killed by a car Tuesday evening while crossing Fallbrook Avenue.
Joe Gazzera of Woodland Hills was pronounced dead on arrival at Columbia West Hills Medical Center shortly after the 5:50 p.m. accident, said Walter Hogue, a Los Angeles Police Department traffic investigator.
Gazzera was crossing Fallbrook about 100 feet north of Sylvan Street when he was struck by a southbound car driven by George Stanger, 19, of Woodland Hills. Stanger was not cited in the accident, Hogue said.
Another southbound motorist had stopped for Gazzera, but as Gazzera walked around that car he was struck by Stanger’s car, Hogue said. Gazzera was crossing in mid-block and was not in a crosswalk when he was hit by Stanger’s car, which was traveling about 35 mph, Hogue said.
