Pilot Program to Take Requests for Pickup of Large Waste Items
In an attempt to save money and labor, Torrance plans to begin a pilot program on Friday that allows residents to call for the pickup of large trash items instead of having to wait for annual collection.
Over the last two years, the city has found that while the number of large materials collected during the annual pickup has decreased, the requests for pickup have not, said spokeswoman Arlene Barco. She said making the collection more accessible would save residents from having to wait for the pickup to get rid of items and would save the city the 12 weeks of labor required to inform residents and collect the trash.
The city plans to offer the program for a year to evaluate its effectiveness.
Those with large refuse items may call (310) 781-6900.
