Is He Leaving Before the Job Is Done?

When reading the profile of Assemblyman Louis Caldera (“At Your Service,” July 20), I was struck by his audacity. Though his term expires next year, he is leaving elected office to pursue a career in the nonprofit sector. The article notes that Caldera feels term limits will boost him out of office next year anyway, so he might as well take advantage of a secure position now--so he’s leaving.
The citizens who elected Caldera voted for representation for a distinct term, not until something better comes along. I will remember his name should he ever seek my vote for higher office in California or the United States. And I will not be voting for him.
