Lancaster Halts Losing Streak, 8-1

Damaso Marte pitched seven strong innings and the JetHawks took advantage of four errors by Rancho Cucamonga to end a three-game losing streak with an 8-1 victory Friday night in a California League game in front of 6,193 at the Epicenter.
Marte (4-6) struck out nine in seven innings. He allowed a home run to John Powers in the fourth inning.
James Clifford keyed a 13-hit JetHawk attack with two hits and three runs batted in, hitting a two-run homer in the sixth.
Marte and Sean Spencer retired the last 10 Rancho Cucamonga batters, including Greg Shockey, formerly of Cal State Northridge, who had his 16-game hitting streak stopped.

Jose Villafana (Mission) went six innings, allowing two runs in Peoria’s 8-2 victory over Clinton. Villafana is 2-0 with a 2.93 ERA. First baseman Peter Paciorek (Glendale College) tripled for Clinton. . . . Center fielder Ryan Stromsborg (Notre Dame) had two hits and two RBIs for Hagerstown in a 4-0 victory over Columbus.
