A Cal State Northridge Chicano studies professor has been named an American Council on Education fellow for the 1997-98 academic year.

Juana Mora, one of 35 fellows selected in this year’s national competition, will work with the Los Angeles Community College District chancellor to gain insight into the community college system.

Mora served as associate dean of CSUN’s College of Humanities last year.

In an effort to strengthen higher education overall, the ACE fellowship program was established in 1965 to prepare faculty and staff members for administrative positions.

More than 1,100 people have participated in the program since its inception, officials said.

Program officials added that more than 200 of its participants have become chief executive officers of institutions and higher education organizations, and nearly 700 have become vice presidents, provosts or deans.
