Perhaps you’ve seen them on the streets in red berets and T-shirts that bear their insignia--a watchful eye and a pair of wings. They’re the Guardian Angels, watching over communities worldwide. A new Venice chapter has begun sending out volunteer safety patrols--on foot, bicycle and roller-blade--to deter crime, gangs and drugs, and to serve as role models. The Angels make citizens’ arrests, conduct self-defense demonstrations, escort seniors and the handicapped, and distribute food to the hungry and homeless.
