Slayer of Police Officer Is Executed in Virginia

JARRATT, Va. — Roy Bruce Smith, 50, a former computer technician, was executed by injection Thursday night at Greensville Correctional Center for the slaying of a Virginia police officer nine years ago, a prison spokesman said.
He was convicted of the July 24, 1988, shooting death of Manassas City Police Sgt. John Conner, who had arrived at Smith’s home after Smith threatened to shoot people and fired into the air.
