Suspect in Several Bank Robberies Arrested in Ventura
A former Oxnard resident suspected in a string of bank robberies in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties was arrested at a downtown Ventura motel Tuesday afternoon, according to the FBI.
Aaron Adam Trujillo, 34, was arrested on suspicion of bank robbery after an investigation by the FBI, the Ventura Police Department and other law enforcement agencies, said Gary Auer, FBI supervisor in Ventura. A federal arrest warrant was obtained June 12, he said.
Law enforcement officials identified Trujillo through photographs taken at the scene of a May 20 bank robbery in Santa Barbara, Auer said. Trujillo is also a suspect in three other bank robberies in the Santa Barbara area, he said.
Trujillo was tied to three Ventura County bank robberies by witness descriptions of the bank robber’s appearance and methods, Auer said. The most recent was a robbery Thursday at Wells Fargo on South Mills Road in Ventura, he said.
“We will now go back to the tellers and customers of the Ventura County robberies and show them the photographs,†Auer said.
Trujillo will make an initial appearance before a federal judge today, Auer said.
“In view of the multiple cases, the government will ask that no bail be set,†he said.
The FBI will seek an indictment from the federal grand jury in Los Angeles in the next two weeks, Auer said.
