Saddleback Valley District Trustees Pick a Parent to Fill Vacancy on Board
MISSION VIEJO — Trustees of Saddleback Valley Unified School District appointed Nancy Kirkpatrick on Tuesday to fill the vacancy left when Trustee Bobbee Cline resigned last month.
She will serve the rest of Cline’s term, which ends in November 1998.
Kirkpatrick, 42, and her husband live in Foothill Ranch and have three children, two attending schools in the district. She is a former teacher and senior manager for TRW, where she worked in government relations, marketing and strategic management. She also has been involved in the PTA and has been a classroom volunteer.
“I’m extremely excited,†Kirkpatrick said. “I think it’s indicative of the board to want parent involvement.â€
Board President Dore J. Gilbert said, “I think it was important that the board of education have another parent that has children in the district and has been involved. I think Nancy Kirkpatrick is an extremely bright and capable person.â€
Board members chose to appoint a successor to Cline, rather than spend an estimated $141,000 for a special election.
District officials interviewed 12 applicants before making their choice Tuesday.
