Landscaping Award Winners Announced

The Public Utilities Department has announced the winners of its 1997 Water Efficient Landscaping Awards.
Top honor in the single-family home category went to Phil Lohse,who lives on South Agate Street.
The Saratoga Condominium Assn. on West Cerritos Avenue was named the multifamily housing winner. And the Orange County Buddhist Church on South Dale Avenue was selected for the commercial-institutional award.
Each year the city recognizes homeowners and businesses for exceptional efforts to conserve water through efficient landscaping.
More than 20 properties were previewed and judged this year on appeal, lush and colorful design, effective mulching, limited lawn areas, efficient irrigation techniques and groupings of drought-tolerant plants by similar water needs.
