Piranha update--Anaheim Coach Mike Hohensee should have gotten some pretty good notes on San Jose’s tendencies from quarterback John Kaleo, who was acquired from the SaberCats two weeks ago for receiver Jai Hill. The Piranhas were beaten by San Jose, 47-27, in the second game of the season. Kaleo, in his first start as a Piranha last week, completed eight of 10 passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns in the second half. The Piranhas, who have a league-high nine players on injured reserve, signed receiver/defensive back Tommy Jones from the World League. Jones played in Anaheim for four games last year.
SaberCat update--Scott Wood, who replaced Kaleo as San Jose’s starting quarterback, had a rough debut--completing only nine of 32 passes for 152 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Wood is from Loara High and Rancho Santiago College. Lineman Al Noga, a former Minnesota Vikings’ linebacker, is leading the league in sacks with 4 1/2.
