Burglars Smash Car Into Store, Steal Jewelry
NORTH HOLLYWOOD — Burglars drove a car through the glass doors of a Sears store and stole gold jewelry from several display cases at 3:15 Thursday morning, police said. They sped off before police arrived two minutes later.
Oscar Balderama, operations manager for the store at 12121 Victory Blvd., said the car left skid marks on the floor. Store security-camera tapes were given to Los Angeles police, he said.
Balderama said store officials were still trying late Thursday to assess the damage to the building and the value of the stolen items.
“I was surprised that they got through the thick glass doors and our security gate,” he said. “That gave the impression that it was a strong impact.”
Police say the burglars drove away in the same car used to smash into the store.
