Kariya Fourth Among Wingers
Paul Kariya finished fourth in voting for wingers in fan balloting for the North American team that will face the world team in the NHL All-Star game Jan. 18 at Vancouver.
Kariya finished behind starters John LeClair of Philadelphia and Brendan Shanahan of Detroit and third-place vote-getter Brett Hull of St. Louis. Hull is out with a broken hand and is not expected back until the Winter Olympics in February.

He has been on the trading block for months, was arrested and charged with assaulting his wife in November and criticized this week for being part of the team’s “negative energy.â€
But Carolina goaltender Sean Burke made the difference in the Hurricanes’ 2-1 victory, according to Duck Coach Pierre Page. Burke stopped 25 of 26 shots, including two by Teemu Selanne on clean breakaways.
