Harvard-Westlake Gets Best of Bishop Amat, 55-49

Brooke Porter had 10 points, seven assists and seven steals to help Harvard-Westlake High to a 55-49 victory Tuesday over previously undefeated Bishop Amat in the second round of the Best in the West girls’ basketball tournament at Ayala High in Chino Hills.

Harvard-Westlake (11-2), the No. 4-ranked team in the region, led, 33-20, at halftime, but trailed, 40-39, at the end of the third quarter.

L’Tanya Robnett had 14 points and seven rebounds for the Wolverines and Omelogo Udeze added 12 points and nine rebounds.

Alemany 60, Crossroads 52--Kate Beckler had 24 points, seven rebounds and four steals for the Indians (8-3) in the quarterfinals of the Bell-Jeff tournament.

Karina Siam added 11 points for Alemany, and Courtney Young scored 23 for the Roadrunners (8-2).

Moorpark 67, Antelope Valley 33--Damaris Hinojosa had 26 points, 11 rebounds, eight steals, seven blocked shots and six assists for the Musketeers (10-3) in a nonleague game at Moorpark.

El Camino Real 52, Chatsworth 39--Cara Blumfield scored 21 points for the Conquistadores (8-0) in a quarterfinal game of the Canoga Park tournament.

Chrissy McClain added 13 points and 13 rebounds for El Camino Real.

Patricia Nuno scored 17 for Chatsworth.

Burroughs 51, Lakeside (Wash.) 47--Chantal Jimenez scored 18 points for the Indians (9-4) in a Juneau Douglas tournament pool-play game against a team that has won five Washington state championships in 11 years.

Wendy Sanchez scored 13 and JoAnna Garrick contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds for Burroughs, which completed the tournament tied for second.

Bell-Jeff 49, Immaculate Heart 36--Stacy Cobb had 24 points and 14 rebounds for the Guards (5-7) in a quarterfinal game at the Bell-Jeff tournament.

Birmingham 57, San Fernando 29--Yvonne Velasquez scored 16 points and Ofalan Mailangi added 13 for the Braves (5-2) in a championship quarterfinal game of the Canoga Park tournament.

Sherman Oaks CES 55, Franklin 45--Erica Ephraim scored 20 points for the Knights, who outscored Franklin, 18-10, in the fourth quarter of a championship quarterfinal game of the Canoga Park tournament.

Sylmar 52, Milken 10--Veronica Ramos scored 17 points and Vicki Adams added 14 for the Spartans (3-5) in a consolation quarterfinal game of the Canoga Park tournament.

Nordhoff 61, San Diego Kearny 55--Two players had triple-doubles for the Rangers (10-4) in the Vista tournament third-place game.

Point guard Nell Becker had 20 points, 11 steals and 11 assists while center Christen Roper had 10 points, 11 rebounds and 11 blocked shots.

Moorpark 52, San Marcos 50--Keith Donahue went the length of the court and scored a layup with two seconds remaining, and the Musketeers (12-3) were awarded the Don Ford Trophy, given to the best team at the Santa Barbara tournament.

Harvard-Westlake 76, Reseda 69--Russell Lakey scored 12 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, and the Wolverines (12-2) rallied from a five-point deficit in the final three minutes in the fifth-place game at the La Salle tournament.

Victor Munoz, who was named to the all-tournament team, added 21 points for Harvard-Westlake.

Montclair Prep 86, Temple City 68--Rocky Steryo and Micah Cohen each scored 20 points for the Mounties (11-3) in the championship game of the La Salle tournament.

Cohen also had seven steals and six assists for Montclair Prep, ranked No. 9 in The Times’ regional poll.

Marshall 61, Notre Dame 58--Chris Williams scored 16 points for the Knights (7-5), who fell in the third-place game of the La Salle tournament.

Hoover 78, Rialto 60--Mark Hull had 27 points and 15 rebounds for the Tornadoes (10-4) in the third-place game at the Estancia tournament.

Channel Islands 68, Burroughs 56--Paul Blair scored 15 points to help the Raiders (10-2) take fifth place in the Santa Barbara tournament.
