Toys for Tots Effort Brightens Holidays
* For years many of us have heard about and even contributed to local Toys for Tots efforts coordinated by local units of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
I think it is important to share one example of how the efforts of the local community and U.S. Marine Corps combined to improve the holidays of local children.
In Hueneme Elementary School District we conduct a Saturday School for children in our Migrant Program. These children willingly attend the weekend program to help them compensate for the school time they generally miss during the winter months when many of their families leave the country to visit family in Mexico.
This year the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program coordinated by Gunnery Sgt. John Hendrix donated a wonderful toy for each and every student in our Migrant Saturday School Program. The result of this effort was that 275 local children will have their holiday enriched this year!
We are deeply appreciative of this effort and we know that this is just one example of the many efforts of the Toys for Tots program.
