Food Bank Gives Turkeys, Toys to Needy Families
Santa Claus made an early visit to Hawaiian Gardens as a food bank serving needy families distributed food and toys Wednesday.
The Hawaiian Gardens Food Bank gave away more than 500 Christmas turkeys and more than 2,000 toys, said Rose Rodriguez, the facility’s manager.
“My family and I truly appreciate what the food bank does,” said Telma Rameriz. “A lot of people need help to put food on the table and make sure the kids have a merry Christmas.”
The food bank, a project of the Irving Moskowitz Foundation, helps more than 1,000 Hawaiian Gardens families on a regular basis with grocery vouchers and food, said Bob Stiens, foundation spokesman.
