Bolsa Grande Advances to Tournament Final
Jon James scored 22 points to help Bolsa Grande defeat Brethren Christian, 97-63, in the semifinals of the Century Tournament Friday. Bolsa Grande will play Canyon tonight for the championship.
James, coming off a 40-point game Wednesday, also grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Duc Nguyen added 16 points and eight assists, shooting four for five from the three-point range and reserve Lamar Holloway scored 16 points with three three-point goals for Bolsa Grande (6-1).
In other Century tournament games:
Dana Hills 85, University 80--Tim McKee led the Dolphins (3-1) with a game-high 37 points, 16 scored in the first quarter. Brett Nowell added 16 points, and Johnny Shields scored 12. Eric Palmer led University (3-1) with 28 points, followed by Justin Hunt with 14, Larry Johnson with 13, and Jeff Groendal with 11.
Magnolia 55, Century 49--Zamiro Bennem led the Sentinels (6-1) with 17 points and Anthony Zaragoza added 16. Mike Zepeda scored a team-high 13 points for Century (4-1), and Hardy Fatu scored 11.
In the Foothill Tournament:
Loara 59, Los Amigos 46--Brian Brennan scored 18 points for Loara.
In the Fullerton Tournament:
Canyon 76, Rowland Heights Rowland 57--Andrew Gaulden led Canyon (5-0) with 23 points. Scott Reed added 15 points, and Neil Hammad scored 11.
Marina 57, Fullerton 55--Scot Austin led the Vikings (4-3) with 21 points, and Scott Rivera added 20, including three three-point goals. Michael Bridgford led the Indians with 13 points, including three three-point goals. Akachi Azubuike added 12 points for Fullerton (4-3).
In the La Quinta Classic:
Calvary Chapel 80, Huntington Beach 56--Joe Ortiz and Brett Young each scored 30 points for Calvary Chapel, which led, 43-23, at halftime.
La Quinta 78, Santa Ana Valley 75 (OT)--Chris Smith scored 31 points in the third-round victory for La Quinta (3-4). Santa Ana Valley (0-3) led, 34-26, at the half, but was outscored, 22-13, in the third quarter.
In the Napa Wine Valley Classic:
Fountain Valley 68, Napa 50--Eric Edmunds led the Aztecs (3-1) with 28 points, including a game-high five three-pointers. Bryan Moreau added 10 points and four assists. Matt Rasmussen led host Napa (2-4) with 27 points. Fountain Valley will play Vintage today at Napa High for the championship.
In the Ocean View Tournament of Champions:
Compton 56, Ocean View 55--Tony Dow (eight assists) and Kevin Hanson (10 rebounds) each scored 16 points for Ocean View (2-1), which will play Long Beach Jordan at 6:30 tonight in the third-place game.
In nonleague games:
Estancia 62, Irvine 60--James Dawkins led host Estancia with 28 points and nine rebounds, followed by Ryan Simpson with 10 points. Sam Nelson added nine points and nine rebounds, including one which led to the game-winning shot.
