Concert Series Planned Instead of Street Fair
The city is proposing to transform last summer’s downtown street fair into a monthly concert series at the Historic Town Center Park beginning the third Wednesday in June.
The city plans to invite local businesses and restaurants to set up booths in the park for the new San Juan Summer Nites.
City Council members on Tuesday are expected to approve spending $4,000 to cover the first two months of the program.
According to the Chamber of Commerce, downtown merchants near Mission San Juan Capistrano prefer the park location for the event.
Previous street closures not only were costly but also attracted outside vendors, reducing local profits.
The event will be a joint effort by the chamber and the city to draw more business to the downtown.
