Starving Seals
The picture of the starving seal on your Dec. 8 front page brought tears to my eyes. If we can help starving people around the world, why can’t we help starving animals? I know that is not a part of “natural selection,†but it is the humane thing to do.
How can we help one and not the other? Animals share this planet with us and should get the same respect and care we give people.

* I was deeply offended by the picture of “an emaciated 6-month-old sea lion.â€
I enjoy being educated and enlightened by your paper, but to show a baby animal dying on the front page is simply not necessary to invoke interest in readers. Where are the compassion and humanity? There is so much pain and sorrow in the world; must your editors take it upon themselves to rob the dignity of either man or beast that is in the process of dying?
