Food Bank Far Short of Donations Goal
Food Share, Ventura County’s largest food bank, is more than 67,000 pounds short of its goal to collect 100,000 pounds of food for the area’s homeless.
So far, 33,000 pounds of canned food have been collected in Holiday Challenge 1997, said Jeff Dronkers, food drive coordinator.
To help boost donations, 25 organizations have been canvassing the county for items to fill 500 emergency food baskets.
The hundreds of requests for such baskets will not be filled unless Food Share reaches its goal, Dronkers said.
Donations of canned food can be dropped off at any Vons supermarket in Ventura County, or call 983-7100 for information.
