Hoover Lives Up to Expectations, 76-58

GLENDALE — After a promising summer, the Hoover High boys’ basketball team entered the season with high expectations.

So far, the Tornadoes are living up to them.

With All-Pacific League forward Mark Hull showing the way with 22 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, Hoover coasted to a 76-58 victory over Crescenta Valley on Friday in the Hoover-Burbank tournament championship game at Hoover.

Hull, selected the most valuable player of the tournament, had 71 points and 33 rebounds in three tournament games.

Zareh Avedian scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and Artin Del Keoukian tallied 13 points and had 20 rebounds as Hoover (3-0) dominated the smaller Falcons (3-2) on the boards.

Crescenta Valley was led by Derek Dawson with 18 points and Christ Shakhmalian with 15.

In other tournament games:

Burroughs 68, Marshall 55--Forward Jeremy Cartee scored 18 points and had eight rebounds to spark Burroughs (2-1) in a game for third place.

Teammates Kevin Krose and Preston Tucker scored 15 and 12 points, respectively, and Tucker had 10 rebounds.

Glendale 60, Belmont 55--The Dynamiters outscored Belmont, 23-4, in the final six minutes to overcome a 51-37 deficit and claim fifth place.

Glendale (2-1) was led by Tomik Iranosian with 18 points and Krikor Karamanoukian with 15.

Burbank 52, Eagle Rock 47--Jonah Martin scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half for Burbank (1-2) in the game for seventh place.

Jake Brower scored 11 points and Juni Williams had 10 for Burbank, ranked No. 9 in the region in a preseason poll.
