One of the season’s best matchups is Friday at the Woodbridge Tip-Off Classic, where second-ranked San Clemente and third-ranked Esperanza meet in pool play. The title game is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Tonight is also a big night, as last year’s scoring leader, Giuliana Mendiola (24.4 points), leads seventh-ranked El Toro against eighth-ranked Troy in the Century tournament, and No. 6 Mater Dei is at No. 5 Marina at 7 p.m. Look for the Monarchs to have the advantage because Viking junior center Chanda McLeod and senior forward Amy Pace won’t be available because they are still playing for the volleyball team.
