My Favorite Weekend
Lakers guard Kobe Bryant
Horror Nights: Friday nights, I like to go to scary movies. I go with my sister, Shay, a lot, and then we’ll go to Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles or to Aunt Kizzy’s in Marina del Rey for soul food.
Tuning Out: The Saturday mornings we don’t have practice, I get up and watch TV. It doesn’t matter what’s on; anything helps me relax, whether it’s “Saved by the Bell†or “X-Men.†I just chill and try to keep my mind off basketball.
Working Out: Saturday afternoons are workout time. I go to Gold’s Gym in Venice. You see so many muscle guys there who can’t even put their arms down at their sides they’re so big! I just wear a big old shirt so I’m not embarrassed. I work out for about an hour. Afterward I’ll drive back home up PCH and try to catch a glimpse of the ocean without taking my eyes off the road for too long.
In the Kitchen: My mom, Pamela, is trying to teach me how to cook. Saturday nights, if I’m lucky, she’ll cook chicken cordon bleu, my favorite dish. I’ll stand behind her pretending to listen as she tells me how to add this and mix that.
Inner Reflection: Sundays are meditation days. I like to go to the beach in Santa Monica and write poetry. I write the kind that rhymes. It’s hard but it’s fun. I love reading philosophy, too. Recently I have read Plato and Socrates. Stuff like that is cool, looking into your soul.
Tagging Along: My mom, my sister and I go to Third Street Promenade to eat Italian food at Trilussa a lot. They like to go shopping, but I’m not much of a shopper so I’ll just tag along.
