Longer Hotel Stays Get Council Approval
An emergency ordinance that allows visitors to stay in hotels for more than 30 consecutive days was approved by the City Council to meet the needs of extended-stay hotels hoping to locate in the city.
The measure, intended to accommodate hotels catering to business travelers, changes the city’s definition of a hotel or motel and allows such nontraditional services as kitchen facilities.
It limits stays of more than 30 days to 10% of a hotel’s rooms and requires visitors to register again after 30 days. Stays are limited to 120 days under the emergency law.
City officials will begin a study to determine if zoning laws should be changed.
