Alps Casualties Rise as 3 Die in Mishaps

Three hikers fell to their deaths in three separate accidents in the Alps, raising the death toll in the region in recent days to 20, police said. A 37-year-old Parisian died in a fall while hiking at an altitude of 5,850 feet in the central Alps, and a Marseilles man in his 70s and an unidentified hiker plunged to their deaths while walking on mountain ridges east of the Alpine town of Annecy. Six climbers were found dead on Mont Blanc this week; 11 others have died on Mont Blanc since Saturday.
