Joanne Gamlin (letter, June 25) asks why a reader, picking up a newspaper and seeing a familiar headline, would not wonder, “Why is this story on the front page when I learned about it on the 11 p.m. news?â€

Surely the answer is, “So that I can learn the whole story, plus the background details and subtleties that weren’t even hinted at during the three minutes it was mentioned on the news last night, in between commercials for used cars and feminine hygiene products.â€
