Man Arrested on Suspicion of Attempted Kidnap
VALENCIA — A Sylmar man was arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnapping late Saturday after a motorist told authorities the suspect was in a pickup truck following a teenage girl, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said Sunday.
James Kellerman, 46, who authorities believe had been following children in his truck earlier last week, was being held on $100,000 bail at the Santa Clarita sheriff’s station, said Lt. Daniel Castillo. Arraignment is expected this week at Newhall Municipal Court.
Castillo said Kellerman apparently was attempting to talk to the girl, who was walking along the street, at about 11 p.m. when a motorist behind the suspect’s truck became suspicious and called the sheriff’s station. Deputies stopped Kellerman at the intersection of Del Monte and Emerald Dove drives, Castillo said.
Authorities believe Kellerman followed children on two occasions in Valencia last week. His vehicle matched the descriptions of the trucks included in two complaints filed with the sheriff’s station, they said.
