Disturbances Are Reported in Casino After Fight Ends
LAS VEGAS — Disturbances were reported at the MGM Grand Garden after the heavyweight bout between Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson Saturday night, police said.
“Calls generated show disturbances--fight calls, which we are already handling with officers on area patrol and extra officers on overtime,†said a desk officer on duty.
KABC-TV reported late Saturday that shots were fired and although no one was wounded, some were injured during the ensuing panic.
The officer said, “We have not confirmed any gun shots.â€
Mark Cieslak of Des Plains, Ill., said he saw a man with a shotgun and extra shells attached to the weapon run through the casino, trip in front of the slot machines, then get up and run.
“People were diving into the pit area, diving for cover,†said another bystander, Pete Fulco.
Hotel security was unable to confirm the incidents.
