Developer Honored for Work With Students

Bell officials honored a Commerce-based real estate development company Wednesday for its volunteer work at Nueva Vista Elementary School.
Mayor Pro Tem Ray Johnson praised the efforts of Steve Belcher, area president of Trammel Crow Co., who enlisted dozens of employees to help teach more than 1,000 Nueva Vista students about business activities and job searches.
Although it was sponsored by Trammell, the five-week curriculum was designed by Junior Achievement, a nationwide nonprofit group established in 1919 to teach schoolchildren business basics. Junior Achievement spokesman Mario Haug said his organization’s Southern California offices have provided similar programs to about 90,000 children since 1954.
